Lake O’Hara

Lake O’Hara. Breathtaking destination in the Canadian Rockies.  A backpackers haven with a well developed network of connector-trails and high alpine routes. Enjoy a series of exquisite glacial-fed aqua marine colored lakes. Located in Yoho National Park, accessed by shuttle that should be reserved at the beginning of the booking season. The other option is to walk 11 km in.

Plan far ahead to arrange your multi-day camping trip at Lake O’Hara. I suggest you use the online booking system at the very start of the year, beginning in February.

If you find a way to secure a campsite at this campground you will be staying at what is probably the best campground in the Rockies.

30 Sites
Running Potable Water
Sheltered Cooking Areas
Daily Cleaned Toilets
Bear Lockers and Nightly Activities
Reserved Seats on the Shuttle in and out of the area

Highly suggest that you create an account and login to the online reservation system on the first morning of reservations, February 3 at 8am, subject to change. Navigate to Backcountry Camping, Yoho National Park and enter the preferred dates and campsites.
Good Luck!!

Day-use: If you are planning on a single day-trip to Lake O’Hara you will have to reserve your seat on the shuttle by way of a random draw starting in March, or do the 11km walk in on the fire road. One could do this walk-in and hike the area around and above the lake in one day but you will want to get an early start and be in good physical condition to complete the hike. The busses returning to the parking area apparently have spare seats more often than not. You might get lucky and get a ride back. No guarantees, so be prepared to walk back.
